I too remember a night in Ely, John -
But IIRC it was February, 2004 — not 2005. Anyway, I distinctly remember digging through the ballast to string wires under the track to one of Tom's flash-bulb holders aimed to light up the very picturesque depot behind the locomotive, and that Tom was rather frustrated (to say the least) when the engineer shut down immediately after passing the depot instead of continuing to work steam a few more yards to Tom's planned light-up location. Apparently a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth with conflicting instructions, and it was too late or too cold or Tom didn't have enough bulbs along to set up a second run-by
. . .
For some long-forgotten reason I was carrying only a little 5- or 6-megapixel Kodak pocket camera at the time and now I can't even find the memory chip with my fuzzy shots from that trip, so I definitely appreciate all your beautiful photos at [

p.s. Several years ago Tom gave me large carton containing forty-eight (48, count 'em, 48) of those big blue
Sylvania General Electric 22-B flashbulbs. I still have a couple of flashguns and about three dozen of the bulbs, if anyone is interested

* Per Tom (emphatically, once upon a time) there's no "u" in his version of Gildersleeve.
