Actually no. Pete Lerro used some new, high-power LED flood lights that he acquired recently. He's used them on several recent charters. They pour a ton of light on the subject, and I've found that if you're willing to jack up your ISO to perhaps 3,200, 4,000, or 5,000, you can pretty much ditch the tripod and shoot hand-held. I have a mirrorless Z6 camera, and the in-body stabilization (IBS) is really quite effective. I can shoot stinkin' slow shutter speeds hand-held, as long as the subject is not moving. The B&W frame was shot off a tripod. The color, rear-quarter image was shot hand-held.
