Years ago, I was loaned the time books of an SP Coast Division fireman.
My initial thought was to try to copy them with a copier, but the guy loaning
them suggested to write them to a disc.
At first, I just blew this idea off, but then thought I'd give it a try. I was still
working for Chevron, but made it a goal to do a page each day. It took me
about 6 months, but I ended up with this guys career on steam from around 1936 to 1955.
This included promotion to engineer just after the War.
I added all of the engine numbers that he was on at the rear of the project and it was substantial.
One copy went to the guy who loaned it to me. I have recently learned that he passed it on
to the museum in Sacramento. I just gave my copy to a young gent who is deep into the SP.
I considered this a worthwhile use of my time and would encourage others to do the same if the
opportunity arises.
