Sam:
The topo maps that are on the net show remnents of the old rt 17 but to my knowledge they do not show the old tole road built in 1879.
Unfortunately there are several suggested routes over the pass. One picture tends to say one went up the hill to the west side of the station but does not show an any of the maps that way. The route shown in Dormans book would suggest a route that we can find some physical evidence of a roadgoing across the ridge parallel to the covered section of the wye and connecting with the route 17 path (old) but when we get over near where the station was we loose the trail probably due to the construction of the new rt 17. That is also true of the area west of the station because there is little evidence of a trace behind the section house and believe me we looked for one.
East of the station is also very fuzzy.
The cabins.....We know there are two buildings southwest of the site of the Lively store, one a painted cabin of two rooms, the other a log cabin that has partly fallen in. We have assumed that those two buildings were the cabins or at least the painted double is one of the cabins. Now you are telling me that there were more cabins that were torn down. Do you have any photos or sources?
Thanks for you contributions. This has been a real hunt as little is well documented. Glad to hear more comments. But does someone have photo's oother than what have been published?
