GLRR 12 firebox

12's firebox arrangement from Silverwood was horrific - the bricked area left combustion space about the size of a large mailbox. From what I understand, while the boiler had come from Mammoth Locomotive (John Braun), Silverwood had done the fire pan and firebox along with much of the other work beyond the basic boiler structure.

Before it had even the slightest hope of running at the Loop, it had its firebrick and firepan arrangement changed after just a handful of test trips pproved it was incapable of pulling much more than itself back up the hill. 12's biggest issue isn't anything big at all, but its small size - and always being expected to steam well beyond its practical capacity.
