VERY Adventurous,, Guy – SFAIK, the QUICKEST way to get from Chama to Osier is, as mentioned by others, NOT the SHORTEST — take Hiway 17 over La Manga pass.  There's a right turn onto CR 5 to the south across a bridge about 12 miles beyond the junction at the bottom of La Manga Pass (about four miles west of Mogote); CR 5 will switch to FR 103 near the state line as you get close to Sublette.  See the maps on [ngdiscussion.net].

I drove a 1964 Triumph TR-4 into Osier in late August, 1967 -

See [ngdiscussion.net] et seq for photos.&nbsp.  A few hours later I drove my car into a ditch in The Narrows to avoid rear-ending a VW.  IIRC, John Gruber was "foaming" a westbound freight, and had his driver stop suddenly . . ..  Steve Forney's friend Fred Oster and some buddies helped me get my (fortunately undamaged) car back on the road.
