Gentlemen,
Please do not refer to OR&L Nos. 60, 70, 80 and 90 as "K-28's". Although almost identical mechanically, the OR&L variants were more powerful and in our opinion better looking. Now that I have upheld the Hawaii party line I'll can the trash talk. None of the OR&L Mikados left Oahu except as scrap No. 60 was in overhaul when the war ended and was completed only to try and sell her. She outlasted the others because the OR&L had plans to create a transportation museum at Kapiolani Park which never came to fruition. Attached are draft locomotive data sheets for each locomotive. The data sheets are compilations from various sources including OR&L primary documentation held by the Bishop Museum. The only surviving OR&L steam locomotives are 0-4-2 No. 6 (Kauila), 0-6-0 No. 12 and 4-6-0 No. 85. All are static displays at the Hawaiian Railway Society. John, your photos still reside in the Hawaiian Railway Society Collection under your name. Brian, planning on coming back?
