I would imagine part of the reasoning for the diesel power is the will just park the train at Rockwood at night.

Thus no need for a hostler, etc. Just turn the key and warm the diesel up and away you go.

It works for this sort of trip logistically.

I just hope the White Pass never puts its fleet up for sale and the management of the D&S gets ideas.
