The price is not $64, there is an 8% historic preservation fee on top of it.
That works out to $5.12.

I agree it is too pricey for a 2 hour diesel hauled trip.
You can get RT from Durango to Silverton starting at $94 + hpf, pulled by steam.

I think $30 for Rockwood to Cascade and back pulled by diesel would be a more reasonable price. Plus I don't know the hpf is in order if your not being pulled by steam.
