I too am wondering about this connection. On the image in the second post, it says: Map of the "Calumet and Hecla" iron mine line. I assume that is the Calumet and Hecla company that operated the copper mines at Calumet, Michigan. But in googling Calumet, CO, that connection to Michigan is unclear. Reference in Wikipedia mentions the Calumet Coal mine at Calumet, CO, and not an iron mine. It seems that I have heard of Calumet & Hecla Consolidated Copper Co. operating mines in the West.
