Interesting, Bruce -
She was in pretty sad shape externally by October of 1964 as I recall (see first photo on [
ngdiscussion.net] and second one on [
ngdiscussion.net]), as nearly every appliance usable on another engine had been removed by then. If her tubes still had some life in them when she was retired then it's no big surprise that they might have been "borrowed" as well, although IIRC that could have been done without removing the front sheet.
Here's a look inside a K-36 being re-flued in Chama in January, 1973. IIRC, that would have been #487
