I've been on several excursions in the past 5-6 years and it is annoying when you are in the middle of no-where and people that didn't pay are showing up at almost EVERY run by. I feel like the highway from Chama to Cumbres is fair game as it is a public highway and really don't mind people taking pics there from every access point. I don't even mind a few pics in the back country especially around Osier, etc.
But when i have paid a lot of money and i see the SAME guy with his scanner and his Chrysler minivan at every run by that is remotely near a road or a dirt path, it is annoying. The train pulls to a stop and several people are already there in the prime spots having contributed nothing to the endeavor. On one of the Goose trips a couple of years ago i got so frustrated I committed the cardinal sin: I waived and yelled hello at the freeloader guy while he was filming ruining his shot. Yep, i was "that guy". I know I shouldn't have done that. I was discourtious in reponse to my perception of the fans lack of courtesy.
Anyway, just my 2 cents. It really is matter of being courteous to others, especially the ones who helped make the event happen in the first place.
