Keith,
I'll tell you what I know about wooding up in South Baker. Slabs from the Baker mills, as well as slabs from Bates which were brought down in slab cars, were taken across the river and I'm pretty sure they just had a big pile over there. When the engines came in at night they would go across and wood up before being put to bed for the night. At least this is how they did it in the mid to late 30's.
