This is the story I was told years ago. When Bob Kellar rebuilt it and took the drivers out they weren't marked L and R. When he reassembled it, he studied the main driver, couldn't determine which side was which or that it mattered, and made a guess. 50/50 chance. As noted, the engine ran in reverse when in forward motion. Later on an effort was made to adjust the valve motion to get it to operate properly but that only succeeded in making it very lame. It is my understanding that it was repaired sometime after leaving Chama.

I suspect that this was not the first time something like this occurred nor was it the last.
