The modification of both 40 and 44 were done in Central America. The Salvadorians used their own casting shop to pirate the pattern for the spool valve conversion.

With the lagging and jacket off, it looks like it.... nothing near the quality of the Baldwin castings. But they have held up for this long, so they knew what they were doing. Not pretty, but they worked.
