Wayne,
While you're planning, you can drive from the Breckenridge Locomotive (and rotary, and caboose), right down the mostly unpaved but well maintained DSP&P roadbed right to the Como roundhouse. It's one of the most beautiful drives, and best railroad drives, in America. About 30 Klicks. The road is dirt, but well traveled and well maintained during the summer. If you rent a compact car, I might not try it after -torrential- rains. Any common SUV or mid-size would have no problem.
