Thank you for posting.  Did you bump into my fellow curmudgeon 'Uncle Al' Phillips while you were in Chattanooga?  I was privileged to spend a couple of days with him at the TVRM a few years ago — there are some photos of 4501's rebuild and the TVRM yard at [ngdiscussion.net], and close-ups of #630's Southern valve gear on the following post at [ngdiscussion.net].

I stared at that valve gear for a long time, and never did quite figure out how it works.  Years ago I had some valve-gear animations from Charlie Dockstader (sp?), including Southern and Young, but they were for an ancient version of Win-doze on a slow computer, and won't even load – much less run – on my current machine.
