Mt. Rainier Scenic is a steam operation at Elbe, with the shops being at Mineral. I was there in 1990 and again in 1992. In 1992 they ran a special fan trip with a Heisler and a Climax doubleheader. Climax is very rare and is from Vancouver Island. Have not kept up with things there, but you might check them out. If you had two cars you could let others in your part visit Mt. Rainier, while you did the railroad. Not NG but interesting steam railroading at least. Scenery is pretty nice too.

Another idea is the ferry to Vancouver Island, though you would need a passport for that. Used to be the CPR RDC that ran on the island, but not sure that runs anymore. Here is a preview clip from the video I did at Mt. Rainier in 1992.
