It's standard gauge, but IMHO not a C-41 -
The domes are rounded, way different from those on the K-37's. It might even be a very early 2-8-2 – it's really hard to tell even looking at the roughly 8"x10" original on page 104 of Beebe & Clegg's 1962 book
'Rio Grande'. The other three engines on the front of the train look smaller – with noticeably shorter tenders like a C-41's – but they also have rounded domes. I presume B&C got the photo from the railroad's archives, since it was staged in 1911 for a photographer they hired frequently – Harry Shipley of Salt Lake City.
