Up until the early 1950's (1940-1953) what we now call Alcos were in fact built and marketed by a consortium which went by the name Alco-GE. Alco and GE had a long history of building electric, and early diesel-electrics, together.
I think the unit in question is an MRS-1 built in 1953? If so 1000 hp, C-C. This model was built by both Alco-GE and EMD.
The 2nd Diesel Spotters Guide (Klambach) is the go-to source for information on pre-1973 North American diesel-electric units, btw.

ps I should note I've never paid much attention to the army engines used at Durango in the 1950's. And I didn't actually look very far in the Guide before I posted this, kinda just flipped through a bit.
