Rick:
I know what she is talking about (I have them). The county maps are ICC maps that the D&RG gave to the counties for property legal issues and for taxes.
The maps the RR Museum are printing are exactly the same thing. In fact, I was the one who first showed these maps to Bob Richardson in 1975 when I found the first of them in the Gunnison County files. Actually, Bill Jones of Silverton (he was a student at the college in Gunnison), found them and told me about them. I got copies and showed them to Bob.
I was surprised that they would still have maps from 1919, but the County Clerk in Gunnison told me that they have to have a legal record of all property for legal purposes. Even though the D&RGW left Gunnison country in 1955, the property ownership questions will probably continue forever.
My point was that the Museum will probably not offer all of these maps...too many. It took nearly 40 microfilms to get all the maps I wanted from the Gunnison records. They did not have any other copying method back in 1975.
The maps are exactly as you desribe them and have tons of detail. The Museum's copies have the additional D&RGW notes that the county copies would not have. Just a bit of information for anyone who wants more than what the Museum is offering...jdb
