Re: a conundrum regarding the Uintah yard at mack.

yeah, thats the undocumented structure.
i've read here before about rumours of dual gauge track at mack and have considered the possibility of the track between those two buildings being dual gauge. i think its most likely that this smaller building has a track between it and the other building as then a boxcar between the two could be loaded simultaneously , The other warehouse not seen in the yard diagram had track on both sides, one being standard gauge and the other 3ft
also this yard diagram would not be 100% accurate , the Mack shed appear to have had a continuous number of doors running down their sides, thus the track would have to be parallel with the building - not so on the diagram. from the film its clear the train in the film is running right next to the building, there are three switches, so its on the main line and the building would fit in here.

there do not seem to be any photographs existing of this particular warehouse or the AAA warehouse . none in the books i've seen or online, the only picture of the mack warehouses is the one in polleys book and that is definitely the gilsonite asphalt warehouse as the photo of it is taken from the Uintah main line.
Rodger only mentions the AAA warehouse in passing and doesn't give any details as to dimensions or style. so all we can do is indulge in supposition . Apparently the old gilsonite dumps were superseded by the freight houses in the late teens. I have ordered the ICC maps of the DRGW mainline from the colorado railroad museum ( which from memory are 1919) and i'm hoping there may be some details in there of mack yard , showing at least the DRGW structures and track .the station building was jointly owned, so hoping there complete year plan.
if you look at the map, the DRGW line connects to the AAA building, except just before the building, there is a serrated line , was this dual gauge. ? if not, then how was product unloaded off the DRGW cars, if there was no connection at all unless there was a a track running alongside the building.?
But according to Polleys's map, the Uintah line also connects to the building part way and theres this section of serrations which are not explained . they could have loaded and unloaded the gilsonite on one half of the building and then carried it down to the standard gauge train, but that would mean a lot more labour involved, a simpler solution would have a been a short section of dual gauge and then the building of another warehouse which could have provided another NG loading /unloading opportunity.
theres definitely a warehouse of some kind there, but a narrower one at least and perhaps smaller too.
