Earl,
the 2nd NNGC Denver was 22nd-25th September '82 with the Silverton trip on the Monday 27th.
We debated going over to Chama the following day since the weather packed up by Silverton, another couple of Kiwi's were also at the Conv. and hadn't seen the C&TS either. I had always wanted to go visit since I was 16 and had seen the centre-spread photo in the May '74 issue of Rail Classics mag.
I see we didn't have any class on that day (since you mentioned this in your memoirs threads), we were riding in the last Box of the train you chased, damned cold, colder than our Winter we had just left behind at the start of our overseas trip. Our train was also occupied by a load of Aussie tourists whose bus had broken down passing through Chama. We never thought we'd go to as far as Chama just to hear Aussies
Stink weather all the way to Osier and return, some opening up on the way back through Los Pinos which yielded about the only sunlit shot on the whole day.
We were impressed at all the built-up m-o-w kits spread out as well
