The next day, things went back to normal (sort of). Marvin and I were on 488 through to Antonito, deadheading the two Antonito cars back in the regular train. I drove the bus back to Chama.
The next day I had the day off, and it snowed. Not in Chama, but up on the hill. 0306 was chartered on the back of the Chama train. I didn’t have any pics of it out on the road, so despite the crummy weather and lighting, I did a bit of train chasing. I didn’t have any shots in the snow, another excuse to chase. Mostly the photos came out badly. The bright sky messed with my light meter and everything came out way too dark. Photoshop can only do so much. Believe it or not, these look a lot better than the original slides….
0306 clears the first crossing outside of Chama.
487 thunders up the hill through the scrub oak at MP 337.
By the time we got to Cresco, the light rain turned to sleet, which eventually turned to snow at Coxo. I hiked to the top of Kodak Rock, and got 487 down below the crossing and overhead on Windy Point.
First snow on the ground at Cumbres.
