Well, we were all young bucks and could work like that then. George being nearly 70 then, only worked 5 days. Before we started working through and driving back, it was almost like having two separate divisions. There was the guys in Antonito and the guys in Chama. Russ and I would go straight through once a week, staying in Antonito, coming back the next day. Conversely, Marvin and Dale would to the same. The train crews pretty much stayed on their own sides. Once we started driving the van, the crews got mixed up with each other and you'd end up working with everyone, which was a better deal. One got tired of looking across the cab at the same grumpy face every day....
