I don’t recall the dates, but the 2nd National Narrow Gauge Convention was held in Denver around the end of September. They didn’t do anything in Chama. They did go to Durango and do something (I think), which pissed us off a bit. But everyone was still gaga about the D&S at that point. We decided to take the high road though. A few folks had made comments that the MOW equipment was hard to photograph hiding up behind and next to the oil rack. So, as sort of a fun thing, Gary, Russ and I dragged all of it out and set it out on #1 track north of the depot. As additional craziness, we hooked up air to Pile Driver OB’s engine, poured a bunch of oil in it…… and it ran! Wow. Hey, let’s see if we can stand this thing up!! I took a couple of tries to get it all the way up with only 90lbs of air. But here she is, upright for the first time since the Grande used her last… I took these pics after I got back from the grubby day train chasing session. The weather wasn’t any better back in Chama, especially when trying to photograph into the sun…….
Next month is the final hurrah for 1982.
Thanks for Watching!
