John,
One possible thing in favor of the eventual restoration of the tank. My understanding is that the original tank burned very early on and was replaced with a tank from- (La Jara, or Antonito???) I was told, though I never climbed up to look, that there was a steel liner installed inside at the time, and the outer tank is no longer required to be water tight.
