Camp 28 was where Reed Hatch started his railroading in 1923. That was the main load out until the Maverick was built. Remember the "Maverick Unit" as it was called
was not built and compleated until 1947! The siding west of Apache Springs was the Stock Siding. I can remember working as a Brakeman circa 1972 with the stock extra
stopped behind our WMSRR Train. The White Mountain Apache Tribe shipped cattle over Santa Fe in REAL AT&SF stock cars! The stock extras went on until the operation
of the WMSRR over the Maverick Line ended on September 1973. Remember many thought the last train of the WMSRR was the last train to Maverick not so. The Railroad lasted
six more years over the Maverick line. Big Lake had a siding and wye. I believe M.P. 56 had a siding shown in the Arizona Highways article 1963 ; Last caboose to Maverick.
And Maverick had two load outs one in Maverick proper, a passing siding. And a two mile stub line into the forest as mentioned in the Arizona Memory project on line. That was
where much of the loads were picked up from. I remember from the last train in 67 seeing a little bit of the rails back there.
