The history books say July 16 , 1967 was the last cleanup train to Maverick. Earl I don't remember the Log train we had to get in the clear for? You probably remember we arrived
1:45 A.M sunday morning september 5th. Boy what a Trip!!. I have a copy of the train orders from that trip and so did my dad.And I also have a copy of a fantastic CD
from Marion Hatch of the history of the WMSRR including photos of the Maverick trip from Willard Hatches slides. There happen to be many Joe Herford black and white
photos of the Maverick trip. Also find the Arizona Highways 1950 Issue on Mc Nary Lumber mill and the Apache Railway. The Magazine is packed in my collection
of WMSRR stuff. Look for the month on E-Bay a faded cover with a forest scene.I Don't have the month. This actually has photos in B&W and color of the Maverick load out and a train of logs
at Big Lake . Regarding if there was still trains to Maverick the answer is no. Bob Echoles told me they were still using the Big Lake Load Out after the WMSRR last train.
Bob actually went to work the winter of 1968 in plow service on the Apache from Mc Nary to Big Lake and worked some log trains but he couldn't take the winters he quit
April 1969. The remainder of the operations ceased in 1970 to Big Lake. The track remained in place until 1976 when the entire Old Apache Maverick line to Mc Nary
was removed. Also if you want to get some great oral history from a surviving Apache Railway engineer and a real tear jerker poem on the end of the line go to the Arizona
Memory project The Apache Railway , online. The Track and ties were removed from maverick to Big Lake (M.P. 67) October 1967.
