Reed Hatch was the owner of the White Mountain Scenic RR in the 1960's - 1970's. His grand daughter is a reporter for the newspaper in Holbrook and may have some info as to what was along the line to Maverick. Reed had worked for the Apache RR as a youngster and fell in love with it. That experience is where he learned operating an engine. While he was a rancher and part owner of an auto dealership in Holbrook, he started the White Mountain Scenic operating over the Apache RR twenty miles out of McNary towards Maverick. After I graduated from the U of A in 1969, I was not able to go back and work (as a volunteer) in McNary. Reed sold the outfit as his son had no interest in the operation. Maybe some of his kin in that area can give some details and I would suggest you try the newspaper for his grand daughter. At least she may know someone in the area that has more knowledge.
I was the brakeman on the last trip to Maverick on the White Mountain before the town was closed permanently. I do not remember many side tracks but time has past and my memory is short a few years.
