...coal was trucked to Durango and loaded into gons there, the gons were hauled to Chama and unloaded into the pit. Or at least that was how it was done in the 60's. So using the coaling tower would be trading some truck miles for some gon miles. I worry less about getting the coal to the tower than the wear and tear associated with using the facility.
The DRGW was always known for running a lean organization, guess the coal tower was no exception.
