Re: Coal Tipple lean

Just talked to John Sutkus and he says that the tipple is 72' high at the peak and it was 7" out of plumb. (Sure looked worse than that didn't it?) He said that that telephone pole/thick wooden beam was installed in something like 1995 to carry the tipple weight and stop that wooden mud sill beam from collapsing any further. John says that with the structure plumb again there is a 4" gap between the emergency beam and the structure, which shows how much that side of the building had sunk over the years.

The work on making the tipple operational is ongoing, and next summer they are finishing cleaning out the pit where the drop bottom gon's dump the coal and pouring a new concrete floor in there and trying to locate the drain to that pit. Hope this answers your questions.
