I, for one, am glad to see this discussion take a positive note. Honestly, given the rarity of these locomotives (they're priceless, no chance of replacements being built) the prospect of a restoration/repair over a "stuffed and mounted" pile of rusty steel and scrap iron is definitely preferable! I do have to wonder, if, maybe, perhaps CRRM has a supply of K-37 parts that were squirreled away at some point, and perhaps, maybe, I don't know, they're in a better position to restore a second one?
