A side note on frequencies. While the whistles built may have intended to be a specific chord or specific notes, it seems that after casting, assembly and tuning the specific pitches of each chamber would vary outside of exact notes. If you play a chord on a keyboard based on a whistle, it sounds very similar. But, if you play the specific frequencies, you get a very close representation of an individual whistle. Most of the frequencies Dave mapped out are not notes on a properly tuned instrument, and if you match one note, the rest are off just a bit.

I strongly believe this is one of the main reasons engines have their own character. A whistle kind of becomes a voice. Everyone's voice is a little different, same as locomotive whistles!
