Just for the heck of the semantics question, and not discounting Sam's earlier remarks, but I sat through a long town meeting Tuesday here in Silverton about the Gold King mine disaster with numerous mine owners, mining engineers, former miners, etc, and the word adit was frequently used to describe the surface opening of a mine tunnel and since I was tuned into the question, not once was the word tunnel used. This was in reference to public and industry input to the question of the town/county seeking Superfund status, which went undecided until possibly next week. It turns out that my building may be included into a Superfund "study" area if the town/county agrees to ask for this designation.
