Having recently been "contemplating" a pile of flame cut 60 foot(ish) rails I was informed that any saw cuts must be made at least 12 inches from flame cut ends or thermic welds - looks like we'll be working on 55 foot lengths of rail! All we have to do is to make certain that the measuring and cutting of each pair is done together.........

P.S. This is UK practice but most FRA rules are similar.
