An' someone musta mis-heard them old-timers a-talking about that there hill between m.p. 288 an' m.p 290. What I heard was it was 'riginally named after this here cougar what once had a den up in the rocks above m.p. 289. 'Parently the big feller had been raised by some old geezer living under the trestle at m.p. 287.50 who found him when he were jist a cub. He din't never bother no human beans, not even the track crews - why a couple o' them guys even tossed him a bite er two o' there lunches from time t' time. An' 'cept fer when he got hungry an' was a-huntin' jackelopes an' army-dillers he jist laid around in the sun, reel mellow-like. 'Ventually that whole side o' the mesa where he roamed around - not jist the railroad grade - got named after him
