There's nothing worse than a brightly-colored baseball cap - such as the following example instigated by the daughter of a known instigator

One D&RGW fireman was reputed to wear a cowboy hat on occasion, even when working for real - not on a Phraud-O-Phreight™

- and later was known to have donned a baseball cap from time to time, even when doing serious work as an engineer

(Although I must admit it wasn't too brightly colored - at least by the time the above photo was taken.)
Nonetheless, your point is well taken - in general, clothes DO make the man!
