Here's a 3D closeup of locomotive No. 2 "
Annie K." on the GT&C RR. (Knott's reports as Ghost Town and Calico Railroad.)
In 2011 she was a sad sorry mess. The tender was a complete loss, requiring a ground up re-fabrication. The boiler couldn't hold static, so no possibility of Cal. Certs. the grate was shot, the paint missing if not peeling, the jacketing was entirely missing, the drivers with skid spots and out of round, missing velocity injector, missing Westinghouse compressor, stripped of missing lanterns. friction brakes shot, air brakes non-existant, stolen bell, main bearings worn, cylinders leaked at the packing and rings with corrosion damage and compression hammering buckle on the crosshead and main rod. Said the crew "She was rode hard and put away wet." The springs and journals were o.k. though.
She'll need a new boiler if she is deemed rebuildable. Talking to the roundhouse crew on the GT&C, they indicated her best use for this rust bucket was scrap iron, that they may perhaps keep her as decoration and put her on static display after a cosmetic restoration. But I know they can work miracles. Here's hoping that they can… —(o=8> wiz.
