The rooms in the Hotel Ferrocarril looked about as bad as the outside. The Bar itself appeared to me to be something out of an old Humphry Bogart movie, complete with huge mirror above the bar, beeded-glass entry curtin and a chubby old Bartender who looked like Sidney Greenstreet.
It was indeed an experience watching the steam activity at the roundhouse and yard in the morning from the upper veranda with a cup of coffee. It was much like watching the Chama yard from the top porch of the Shamrock, although the Shamrock is much nicer and cleaner. I visited the Hotel Ferrocarril on several occasions and on one trip my ex-wife refused to stay there and I missed getting any more photos. We ended up taking a bus back to Guatemala City (another real adventure). No further explination why she is "ex" is needed!
Attached photo shows (L to R) the late Ed Gerlits, Ken Crist and Bob Richardson in front of the elete establishment.
