In March of 1973, Al Shelton & I had just came into town on 2-8-2 180. I got off and went to the Hotel to get us a room while Al stayed with the engineer to put the engine in the 6 stall house ( the fireman had gotten off while we rolled into the yd ).
We were both pretty hungry and sat down at one of the large tables. There was linen for a tablecloth and nice old rr silver.
While we were waiting for our dinner, the bartender came out and insisted on showing us both the bar. Besides a large mirror and beautiful hardwood bar, there were machine gun bullet holes still in the wall from the early 50's civil unrest. He was most proud of this!
Oh, lest I forget, a nights lodging and two complete meals for $4.50 US.
