Those were days of great hope for the furure - at least for me. Space Travel. The Space Transportation System (STS) plan was early in planning for a space station, LEO (low earth Orbit) to Lunar vehicles, a Moonbase and plans for building a Lunar manufacturing site for Mars vehicles manufacturing and commercial ventures.

Now there is no American manned space craft. No move for a Moonbase, no real effort for a Mars program. Any US Government spacecraft (manned) is gone. What if the Russia or China run to arming space? I guess we will need to use privateers or private US company's spacecraft and arm them (jury-rigged).

Sort of like retiring and scrapping all US Navy ships and relying solely on rented private vessels (Mercenary armies for US defense).

At least narrow gaugers were able to save part of the remaining D&RGW narrow gauge in 1968-1970.
