I've finally graduated from College and getting a job, so I plan to make my third visit next year. Other two was with family (and almost NEVER happened). I'd love to ride twice, but that's probably not going to happen. Once is all I'll be able to afford. I'd like to visit Durango, but that's an iffy possibility.
But, back to it. Yes, people are traveling less. So, you have to work real hard to get the people traveling from out of state, or you need to cater to the states economy and offer something they can afford. Advertising a shorter ride would also help those who might just be traveling through the area. I don't have marketing research to prove that.

But, I do have marketing research to prove more young people are traveling to and in New Mexico.
Quote
2013 Tourist Report
Greater numbers of younger people traveled in 2012, and that drove
other changes such as: an increase in overall activity participation levels; the types of activities
engaged in: such as a greater percentage of visits to bars/nightclubs and zoos, combined with higher
engagement in outdoor activities; an increased percentage of travelers who had children in their
household; and a decrease in average household income.
So, maybe a campaign more targeted at younger people? Though, if like me, don't have a lot of money.
But, I take all points at equal value as far as discussion, and this is discussion? None of us are actually running a railroad. Some people are just interested in the economic side of things.
