When Bret mentioned Paul VanNess it reminded me of something that hasn't been mentioned. Some people (like Paul) seem to be naturals when it comes to operating machinery. I'm sure Pauls experiences driving Cats and whatnot most his life helps but he is one of my favorite engineers. To me, he is really easy to fire for and to the best of my knowledge gives a pretty smooth ride.
I don't know about other engines but the #3 over on the Sumpter Valley steams like a house afire once she starts pulling a steady load that makes her work. She is a good steamer anyway but once she starts barking if the firebox is full she seems to want to get right up against the pops. There again, there are a lot of people on this board with A LOT more experience than me. That's what this board is good for though, gaining knowledge from people who have it and sharing it. Keep up the good work guys.
