E&P combine interior

For those who have been following the progress of the E&P combine "Elsa" this is a picture of the work I have been doing on the interior bulkhead. This structure is between the passenger end and the baggage end. I has been a bear to make this and has taken the better part of two months.

As you can see, there are 3 doors. The center goes into the baggage end. The side doors will lead into a water closet (can) and the other into a small storage area. The upper part of these doors will have mirrors installed that will give the appearance of a larger passenger end than it really is. It's an illusion device and will also help brighten all the walnut paneling. You will also notice that there are two small panels under each door. These are made of curly maple. The center door panels are also maple, but I stained them years ago with chromium trioxide (an old gun maker stock coloring process.) However you can hardly get the stuff any more. So, they are all maple. I opted to varnish the side door panels and with time they will match the ovals above the side windows which are also maple.

Anyway, that is where I am at this point.

The headliners are still in the design stage. When they are done the only thing left to do it put them up and finish varnishing the lower panels on the side. After that, it is time to nail down the metal roof panels, connect all the striping lines and hook up the brake piping. It is finally coming to an end!
