Whoops! I wasn't talking about the 2nd to last run of the *train* but rrather the 2nd to last time I rode her. The last time I rode was the last run but only from Grand Jct to Glenwood Springs as it was sold out East of there.
BTW, that lasty RGZ was my then fiancee's 3rd train ride. She had been living in Durango until about a week earlier and we'd riden the Silverton twice that Winter/Spring while I was visiting her down there.
Riding the RGZ Through the Rockies (Not Around Them) during Winter was a very cool thing. I've never forgotten one time (East bound) when we went past some poor schumk out hitching on US 40 in Byers Canyon in the snow. He was trying to go East too and we hadn't seen a car on the road inat least 40 minutes. That trip we'd left Glenwood Springs about 50 minutes late and the hogger put her into Denver OS, snowstorm and all.
I'm glad Amtrak's so-called Zephyr is there to ride[1], but it just doesn't have the same magic as the RGZ did. (I'm too young to remember the real CZ.)

[1] Since it means I don't have to ride a Bus or drive my car an absurd distance to get to Colorado!
