Quite often - especially on longer threads - a response is separated by three or four intermediate posts, which is why I often quote at least part of the post to which I am responding.

Ah, so - THANK YOU, Olaf!
Now everything is as clear to me as a coat of Moffat Green boiler jacket enamel!!
The "Whose VW" question has been bugging me ever since I met Olaf - for the first time in nearly forty years - on the September 13, 2009 C&TS excursion pulled by #315. I noticed a fellow who appeared to be about my age carrying a video camera with a very faint "Ra ... ussen" sticker on it (see [
ngdiscussion.net]), and by sheer coincidence I was wearing my "Curmudgeon" badge with a photo on it that included his VW beetle:
To me, the VW in the photo on the badge appears very pale blue - not tan - so when Olaf later told me he was driving a TAN beetle that day I became confused. (That's not an unusual condition for us older Curmudgeons - especially after indulging in a Arrogant Bastard Ale or two.)
Apparently the answer to the question in the subject line is "When one man's tan is another man's bluish beige - and there's another (deep blue) bug in the ointment" to add to the confusion, all of which was exacerbated by my not yet being familiar with the color-correcting power of the "Levels" command in Photoshop Ailments, so the colors of the badge photo (above) are more than a little off - especially the boiler jackets and (GASP!) tenders
...
Perhaps the 'tan' beetle was really beige, and had been freshly washed & waxed so that it was reflecting lots of bright blue morning sky. "Only THE SHADOW really knows."
