Actually the incident to which I alluded to above, is related by Bob Richardson in one of his books, Rio Grande:Chasing The N.G.vol.2 that "Its bell was stolen while in the Roundhouse, but it still can be heard if you attend a certain luncheon club's meeting's."
Bob also related it in another of his previous books, a mention in the Narrow gauge News #67 Aug '56 "...seems the bell of 268 has been stolen again at Gunnison, apparently not being fastend down solidly so it could be used in a rodeo parade!...278 at Montrose, and its caboose is rapidly catching up with other park displayed engines, with smashed cab glass, mutilated fittings, etc..."
