I doubt I ever would have rode the SVRly if it was a longer ride on my last trip. Sumpter was always just too hard to get worked into a itinery and be there on an operating day when other interests dictated I would have to be elsewhere or getting elsewhere.
I was very fortunate last trip to be able to get some research done in Nevada, hightail for Baker, ride the first train the nextday and still have time to make the Cascades that evening to allow visits with fellow 18" ga owners, before making the Seattle NNGConv. Don't forget I have to factor in tri-weekly flights from here(OK I could go via LA...not!) and cost per day, which you guys would probably bawk at.
If I ever get back again, I would make the effort and be rested in Baker the day before, then ride all the runs the nextday....and maybe be Smitty will be home as well.
