Thanks Jay and Frank for your help with the track layout. Very nice map Jay. Does anyone know how the D&RGW did their manuevering with trying to keep the mainline open yet setting out hill turns of I would guess anywhere from about a dozen to 30 cars or so, recoupling hill turns into a train (backing upgrade albeit only 1.2% or so)), putting caboose onto train from behind helper (kicking or possibly helper spotting it followed by more backing up switching or helper connecting it after turning on Y) , helper runaround on apparently short passing track for trip to Alamosa, spotting cars for future runs if Eastbound train was greater than allowed carlength for downhill run to Chama, etc. Seems like at times quite a logistical matter that must have been well choreographed.
